Good News from Curry Health Network: Brookings Therapy Center Remodel is Complete

BROOKINGS, OR (April 3, 2023) - Curry Health Network is delighted to announce the completion of the fully remodeled therapy suite at Curry Medical Center in Brookings after six months of construction. The therapy suite is expected to reopen to patients in April, pending final inspection by Oregon Health Authority’s Facilities Planning and Safety Division and licensing. This much-anticipated upgrade has both patients and therapists excited to return.

Teigan Beck, MS, CCC-SLP, a speech language pathologist at Curry Health Network (CHN), cannot wait for the positive impact the new space will provide for patients.

“This remodel is definitely going to enhance the patient experience,” she said. “The updated space is going to be safer, more accessible—just all around a wonderful space for patients.”

The project was not a small undertaking. The former treatment area was converted from office space into a therapy space, which was functional but not optimized for the services offered there, such as physical, occupational, and speech therapies. The new therapy suite will be updated to the most current building standards to ensure patient safety and increase staff efficiency. The new configuration adds additional patient privacy, with separate rooms for each therapy specialty to have congruent appointments while providing a more comfortable environment for patients to work with their therapists.

But perhaps the most significant benefit of the reopening of the Brookings therapy suite is that patients who live in or near Brookings will no longer need to travel to Gold Beach for their care. The convenience of receiving needed care close to home cannot be understated.

Nicole Hernandez, a patient who currently receives physical therapy for a torn rotator cuff and whose son receives speech therapy from CHN, expressed her excitement about the new therapy suite. She and her son live in Brookings but have to travel to Gold Beach every week for their appointments, and she is ready for their 40-minute drive to become less than 10.

“All of the therapists are very, very good—it’s why we continue to go to Gold Beach,” she said. “But once the remodel is done, and we can stay right in Brookings, it will be so much easier for us. I’m glad that there will be a state-of-the-art facility so close.”

Isaac Hodges, Chief Operating and Experience Officer for CHN, shared his thoughts on the reopening of the Brookings therapy suite: “This upgrade was undertaken for the benefit of our amazing patients. Since 2017, CHN has been proud to offer one of the best outpatient therapies suites available inside Curry General Hospital in Gold Beach. CHN has a goal to provide the best care in the best facilities, and the completion of the Brookings therapy suite accomplishes that goal. It provides the community with the high-quality physical, occupational, and speech therapy care it needs and deserves.”

CHN invites the community to celebrate the reopening of the Brookings therapy suite with an Open House at Curry Medical Center from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. The Open House will showcase the investments in improved healthcare to the communities, including the new therapy suite and therapy services, 3D mammography equipment, a new CT scanner, and a new nuclear medicine scanner. Patients and their families can enjoy refreshments, take tours of the facility, and learn more about the new and improved healthcare services available to them.
