MYELOGRAM


What is a Myelogram?

Under the guidance of fluoroscopy, the Radiologist will inject a special contrast material directly into the spinal canal. After the injection is completed images of the contrast filled spine will be obtained.

A myelogram provides a very detailed image of the spinal canal.

The myelogram test may be performed along with other tests such as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT).

Types of Myelogram:


Cervical Spine
Thoracic Spine
Lumbar Spine

Reasons for Performing a Myelogram Scan Includes:


Ankylosing spondylitis
Herniated disc
Spinal stenosis
Bone spurs
Arthritic discs
Tumors
Tearing away or injury of spinal nerve roots
Infection
Inflammation of the arachnoid membrane
Cysts
Spinal lesions caused by disease or trauma

There may be other reasons that your physician request a Myelogram.
