Thank You To Our Volunteers

Volunteers Provide Personal Contact to Individuals at Memorial Medical Center in Port Lavaca.

Memorial Medical Center was established by community leaders and volunteers in 1950. Today, volunteers are still making an impact on the community one person at a time. Volunteer hours and financial donations can be measured by numbers, but there is no measurement for the gift of a warm smile and personal contact by caring volunteers.

Currently, there are over 40 active members and 8 life members donating over 9,000 annual hours to the care of others. In addition, Junior volunteers donated over 572 annual hours of service.

Officers and Directors for 2023 are:

President: Jeff Lambert
Vice-President: Mary Jane Lambert
Secretary: Candice Lambert
Treasurer: Barbara Stanfill

Volunteering

Looking for a way to be of service to others? Would you like to meet new friends? Volunteering at Memorial Medical Center is just the venue. Our volunteers jointly donate nearly 9,000 hours of their time each year. Volunteer opportunities include:

Gift Shop: Shifts are 4 hours long. Duties include opening the shop, being available for sales, ringing sales in on the cash register and closing the shop after a shift.

Cards and Flowers: Shifts are mornings or afternoons. Duties include delivering mail, newspapers, and flowers to patients, assist with admitting and discharging patients, transporting patients in wheelchairs, running errands for departments, answering the phones, monthly Blood Drives and other clerical tasks.

Other duties as arranged: Volunteers are welcome in all departments at the hospital. If you have an interest in a specific area, please let us know.

The gift of giving continues through Volunteer efforts. From Gift Shop proceeds and donations, the organization makes a financial gift to the hospital each year for specialized equipment. Volunteer efforts also include educational scholarships to high school graduates who are going into the medical field.

All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and complete a TB skin test and flu shot. During the summer months, Junior Volunteers from ages 14 to 18 years may participate in the Volunteer program. If you are interested in volunteering at MMC, please pick up an application at the Volunteer desk located in the Main Lobby.
